If you ordered RPO L89 back in ’69, you got the 427/435hp big block. But what made it really special and rare was the aluminum heads, which saving about 100lbs over the front end. So, you got the performance of the big block, with the lighter weight of a small block! The ultimate street combo!
L-89’s were produced for 3 years in limited numbers; 1967=16, 1968=624, 1969=390 cars). This car has received the highest award for an unrestored
Corvette; the N.C.R.S. gives out! The 5-Star Bow-Tie Award.
The side pipes on this car were available as an option in 1969 only. The build date of this Corvette was July 20, 1969. Which also happens to be the same day we landed on the moon! Fitting, as many of the Apolo astronauts drove Corvettes! Remember where you were on that momentous afternoon?
