The 1956 model year was a huge milestone for Corvette. This was the year that America’s Sports Car when from an impractical Roaster to a much more user-friendly Convertible! Corvette had its first major redesign in ’56. And with the exception of the dash/instrument panel, everything was basically brand new! Of course, the biggest change was the inclusion of roll-up windows for the first time. Along with that was a soft top that was redesigned to make it much easier to put up and down. Especially with the optional power assist! Exterior wise, everything was new. The absolutely beautiful body featured taillights that were sculpted inter the rear fenders and the iconic side coves made their first appearance. Which were available with a contrasting color! Up front, the chrome “tooth” grille remained in slightly modified form. And the headlights were now devoid of screens. Engine choices were all V8’s. No more 6cyl engines! They included the base, single 4bb 265/210hp, the dual quad 265/225hp and the very rare “Duntov” dual quad 265/240hp. And that leads us to our featured car . . .
If we were able to climb into our hot tub time machine and travel back to 1956 expressly for the purpose of ordering the ultimate Corvette, the car presented here might very well be the example on the top of our list!
This ’56 is equipped with the very rare (and documented original) 240hp 265 with the “Duntov” cam. It’s believed to be 1 of only 111 examples built. The car was extensively frame off restored by renown Corvette aficionado Todd Spain. And it’s one of the finest we’ve ever seen! It also happens to be a fantastic driver!
All of the right boxes are checked on this ’56.

And to top it off, the car has achieved both Bloomington gold and N.C.R.S. Top Flight Awards.
