Vehicle Description
Pearl White/Blue w/Blue interior, 283/283hp Fuel Injected 3-speed manual transmission.
Introducing the legendary 1957 Chevrolet Corvette Super Sport, the very first vehicle to carry the iconic “SS” moniker that defined Chevrolet’s performance era. This stunning concept car features the groundbreaking 283 cubic-inch V8 engine with a Rochester Ramjet fuel injection system, delivering an impressive 283 horsepower and setting the standard for performance vehicles.
Developed in response to the overwhelming excitement surrounding Harley Earl’s SR-2 race car, the Corvette Super Sport was designed to offer a competitive version of the Corvette. Built under shop order SO-90181, this unique model began life as a 1956 Corvette (VIN E56S001589) and was transformed at a cost exceeding $18,000 (around $169,900 today). Before work began on the car, it was given a new VIN number (E57S0001589) and re-cataloged as a 1957 model. It made its grand debut at the 42nd Annual New York Auto Show on December 8, 1956, and subsequently toured major auto shows, including the Chicago Auto Show and the Sports Car Club of America event in Detroit.
This exceptional vehicle features several notable modifications, including a custom pearlescent white exterior, distinctive full-length blue stripes, and brushed aluminum side covers inspired by race-built SR-2 Corvettes. To enhance its race-ready appearance, the original windshield was replaced with rounded windscreens, and custom tail-lamp assemblies were integrated into the rear fenders.
Inside, the Corvette Super Sport boasts luxurious blue-dyed leather upholstery, a first for Corvette, with matching accents on the dash, shifter boot, center console, door panels, and even the trunk carpeting.
This remarkable piece of automotive history has survived where many concept cars did not, and it is now available for the first time in decades. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a discerning collector to own a true piece of Corvette legacy. Could you be the one to take this iconic car into your collection?
